Do you want to create a book of poetry, prose, images or some combination of these forms? Do you have 16-24 pages of writing or art that you’d like to turn in to a book?
The chapbook is a book form dating back to the 16th century. Originally a single sheet of folded paper, the form now commonly utilizes folded and sewn pages to present works of art and literature which can be produced inexpensively. Modern chapbooks vary from staple bound booklets to intricate hand-made artist books.
In this four week workshop participants will explore to considerations that go in to designing and producing a chapbook from determining content to manuscript layout to printing and production of a complete chapbook. Focus will be on low-cost methods using readily available supplies and tools. Participants will receive a guidebook containing a list of suppliers and resources and will have the opportunity to produce a finished book or portfolio of work.
Participants who already have a concept and/or content for a chapbook are encouraged to email the instructor (email@example.com) one week prior to the first class session and to bring copies of their manuscript to the first session.

Week 3 – Container. Cover design and form considerations. What makes an engaging cover? What resources are available for images? What paper options are available and what do you need to consider when selecting a cover paper?
