In a yoga, we consider the seven major chakras as possibilities to deepen our understanding of and presence with the whole self. When the seven chakras are in balance, life flows smoothly. However, when one chakra is out of balance, life can feel like a runaway train, or even worse, it can feel stuck. So too can be the writing experience. Writing through the Chakras allows us to harness the power of a yoga practice to develop creativity through the images and experience of the seven major wheels of energy that are already spinning and working through your body. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never done yoga or written creatively, beginners are welcomed and encourage to check it out. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring your notebook and a pen (or two) as well as your yoga mat (if you have one) and a bottle of water.
Haley Lasché is a RYT-200 certified yoga teacher who has taught regular Hatha and Vinyasa classes for the last 3 years. She has done workshops on balancing chakras and using yoga in everyday life all around the Twin Cities. She is also a college writing instructor and a poet. Her poems have appeared in lit mags, anthologies and websites such as Drawn to Marvel: Poems from the Comic Books, Hartskill Review and Dossier Journal. Her chapbook Where It Leads is available from Red Bird Chapbooks where she is also a board member. She has her MFA from Hamline University. You can learn more about her by visiting her blog breathsunyoga.wordpress.com.
This is different than an active yoga class full of downward dogs and complicated poses. In this class, you’ll learn briefly what a chakra is, and why it might be important to creative development and fulfillment. You’ll also learn a little about what makes each chakra unique. Through gentle, easy movement; mudras and chanting, we’ll follow the pathway of the seven chakras and write what we see along the way. If none of those words are meaningful to you, no worries. If it sounds interesting, that’s all you really need. No experience necessary. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a notebook, a pen (or two), a bottle of water and a willing spirit. (If you have a yoga mat, you can bring that too.)
Suggested donation is $20, but you are welcome to give more, and no one will be turned away for financial reasons.
