Name: Skyler Kane
Role at Red Bird: Publishing Intern
How I became involved with Red Bird and why I agreed to do it:
I was talking to my advisor about possible internship possibilities because I really wanted more hands on experience and she directed me to contact Sarah Hayes, the Editor-in-Chief of Red Bird Chapbooks. When I got to sit down with Sarah, it was really cool to hear all of the possible projects that I could undertake and use as a learning experience.
Recent Red Bird project (s):
I’ve recently been working on abstracts and some copy editing for forthcoming titles. I also worked on organizing a volunteer appreciation event and helped with our booth at The Loft’s Wordplay festival.
A little about my own work and what I am currently working on:
On the Hamline campus I am in charge of Her Campus Hamline, our chapter of a national online collegiate magazine, and the Fulcrum Journal, Hamline’s literary journal comprised of student submissions. In what free time I have, I’m working on revising a manuscript of my own with the hope of one day being published myself.
My favorite thing (s) that can be found in the public domain:
I’m a total believer of escapism so you can find me watching too many TV shows, too many movies, and with my nose in a book if I’ve got a spare twenty minutes. I do try to stay up to date the only way I can bear by watching youtube videos of late night shows. Finally, a coworker of mine recently got my roommate and I hooked on the podcast Wine and Crime, which is about three Minnesotan women discussing odd murders while getting wine drunk.
