Earthen Bound by Lisa Higgs

The subject of Earthen Bound is the dying of her grandmother over the course of a year. She doesn’t say, but it is clear that we are in the country where nature is observed and honored and documented. We see the natural world (“the brambled dome of cherry bushes”) moving through its cycles in concert with the failing health of her grandmother. These poems are sonnets written with an extraordinary economy of language and loving attention.
